A Place To Encounter God

Who we are

Today, Linville United Methodist Church at Lake James focuses on the challenges of living in our contemporary world as we seek to know, to love, and to serve God. We are a loving community called together as part of the body of Christ. We strive to grow in God’s grace through worship, music, fellowship, education, and outreach. Our congregation is diverse. Some of our families have ties to the church that go back for several generations and some are new to the area, arriving at Linville UMC at Lake James from many regions and states. Together we serve, we seek, and we nurture one in another. We are known as the “small church with the big heart” for many reasons. First, we practice hospitality welcoming newcomers, guests, visitors, and travelers. Second, our hospitality extends to those who are not a part of the congregation. We actively seek to aid those in need in both our church community and the community at large. You will find a warm welcome here and a church home that offers fellowship and spiritual growth.

Worship and music

What to expect

A welcoming congregation. You will be warmly greeted and meet many who are gathered for worship that morning.

Don’t worry about dressing up unless you want to. Come casually if that suits you.
A service that follows traditional liturgical structure in a relaxed manner. Our youngest members serve as acolytes and offering collectors. Our music combines traditional hymns with both old time hymns and contemporary songs. Music leader and pianist Debby Robinson and her son Chad lead us in spirited singing.
